"It was for the love of entertaining friends and the love of Cambodia that Café Buddha came to be. Upon my return to Melbourne from working with the United Nations and its Agencies from 1992 to 2003, I felt it was rather suffocating to resume a desk job anywhere in Melbourne; so why not a café and a gift shop combined … why not indeed, .. but it had to be the way I envisaged. Having no experience in hospitality industry was an advantage as I didn’t want it to be just another café and gift shop. I wanted it to be “my place” where friends dropped in for a chat and a cup of coffee or a meal … and Café Buddha has been running by that concept ever since. What’s heartening is that our “friends” respond to that concept and more. They visit us before their trip to Cambodia and return to see us with stories and photos upon their return…."
